What happens when you tear down the walls of the traditional classroom and invite the world in? You get the Unifying Borders Internationally through Annual Network Conference (UBIAN Con) 2026. From February 19 to 20, 2026, the University of Batangas once again hosted this highly anticipated research conference. This year’s event held special significance as a centerpiece of UB’s 80th Founding Anniversary celebration, marking eight decades of academic excellence and community leadership.
Spearheaded by the Research and Publications Office (RPO) and the Office of the Vice President for External Affairs (VPEA), the conference proved that while UB has a long history, its eyes are fixed firmly on the future.
Under the theme “BORDERLESS: Advancing a Vibrant, Inclusive, and Innovative Global Playground for Student Life,” this international research conference brought together thinkers from across the globe. Consequently, the campus buzzed with ideas that transcend physical and academic boundaries, honoring the university’s 80-year legacy of bridging gaps.
Day 1: Research Conference Beyond the Classroom Walls
First, the conference opened with a series of heavy-hitting keynote sessions. For instance, Dr. Paul Briney explored the vital role of co-curricular learning across borders. Following this, Dr. Rosemary J. Perez shared insights on fostering inclusive engagement in our increasingly globalized world.
Moreover, the focus shifted toward the heart of the student experience, well-being. Mr. Christopher P. Hernandez delivered a moving talk on student wellness and the “Culture of Care.” In addition to these talks, the day featured:
- A formal Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Research Poster Entries
- Parallel sessions featuring 31 brilliant paper presenters
- Deep dives into academic rigor and innovative research

Day 2: The Power of Inclusion and Resilience, Research Conference in Action
On the second day, the energy remained high as the focus shifted toward human stories. Notably, the morning began with an inspirational message from Ms. Audrey Low, President of the Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology. Because of this international partnership, the “Borderless” theme felt truly authentic.
The undisputed emotional highlight of the conference was Mr. Juan Alfonzo “Japonz” Dacumos’s story. As an autistic self-advocate and Summa Cum Laude graduate, Japonz didn’t just give a speech; he gave a masterclass on the power of support systems. His journey of resilience left the audience deeply moved.
To dive deeper into the clinical and academic sides of inclusion, Japonz was joined by a powerhouse panel of experts:
- Dr. Marizel Pulhin-Dacumos: A Developmental Pediatrician who offered a unique, dual perspective as both a medical expert and Japonz’s mother.
- Mr. Alphonsus C. De Alban: A dedicated School Administrator from St. Philomena School, sharing the educator’s viewpoint.
- Dr. Adelaida Gines: A renowned Psychologist from the Philippine Normal University, who rounded out the discussion with academic and psychological insights.

A Global Playground of Institutions
The success of the UBian Conference 2026 was made possible by its diverse participants. Indeed, several prestigious institutions joined the University of Batangas in this mission. These included:
- Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology (Bhutan)
- Royal University of Bhutan
- Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Unisan Campus
- University of Perpetual Help System DALTA – Molino Campus
- Mindoro State University
- Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)
- Philippine National Police (PNP)
Building a Vibrant Future
Ultimately, the UBian Conference 2026 was more than just a meeting of minds. In fact, it was a declaration that the future of education is inclusive and innovative. By breaking down silos, UB continues to provide a “global playground” where every student, researcher, and innovator can thrive.
