STORIES FROM THE PEOPLE WHO SHAPED AND CONTINUE TO SHAPE UB

Voices of UB

For 80 years, the University of Batangas has been shaped not only by its milestones, but by the people who lived, learned, taught, and worked within its walls. Voices of UB brings together stories and reflections from alumni, faculty, staff, and students—shared experiences that capture the spirit, values, and enduring community of the university.

DR. MERLY C. PANALIGAN

Document Control Officer, Institutional Quality Assurance Office | 35 Years in Service
I joined UB in 1990. What I remember most vividly about my first days was the mix of excitement and uncertainty, learning my way around campus, meeting new people, and getting a feel for the academic culture and teaching in the Elementary Department. Those early experiences helped shape my sense of belonging at UB and set the foundation for my growth, both academically and personally.

Mr. Jeremy Salva, LPT

BSED Major in PEAHM, Class of 2015 | UBLC Pioneer Batch
During my days as a student assistant, a great mentor of mine always told me to never stop learning. This wisdom was what I applied all throughout my journey as a BSA student, and is what I intend to apply going forward.

Ms. Maria Cristhel A. Ledesma-Gutierrez

Bachelor of Secondary Education, Class of 2015, Cum Laude
I chose the University of Batangas–Lipa City because of its reputation as a top-performing institution that provides quality education and strong student support programs. The Student Assistant program, in particular, offered financial assistance that helped me and my family, allowing me to pursue my studies despite financial challenges.

Mr. Loreto “Sir Itok” Ojales

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the University of Batangas Administration and to the Presidents who supported me throughout my journey. I am especially thankful to Dr. Abelardo B. Perez, who believed in me and supported me from the very start of my career; to Dr. Hernando B. Perez, who paved the way and gave me the opportunity to become one of the pioneers of the University of Batangas Lipa City; and to our current President, Ma’am Marlene J. Hernandez-Bohn, for her continued guidance and leadership. Their trust and support allowed me to grow, serve, and remain rooted in the institution that has shaped my life.

The University of Batangas has been instrumental in helping me achieve my career goals by providing a strong academic foundation and meaningful opportunities for growth, service, and leadership. After seven years as a university employee and now as a part-time instructor, UB continues to support my professional development, allowing me to share knowledge, mentor students, and give back to the institution that has invested in me.

UB did more than just hand me a diploma; they gave me my first big break by hiring me right after graduation. Over the past 10 years, UB has opened doors to new experiences and introduced me to many inspiring individuals. It’s a journey that has taken me across different places and continues to push me toward excellence every day.

Way back in 2013, as a returning adult student, the University of Batangas Lipa City was the only institution here in Lipa that truly inspired me. It made me realize that education has no age limit and that there is always a perfect time to go back to school. The UBLC staff motivated me to finally decide to continue my studies by showing genuine care and respect for every aspiring student who wanted to be part of the institution. Their encouragement made me feel valued and confident that I belonged in the academic community.
The most remarkable thing UB has imparted to my life is discipline, resilience, and grit. These values continue to guide me in both my personal development and professional journey.

UB shaped who I am by instilling in me its core values – faith in God, love of wisdom, and service to others. These values guide my decisions, strengthen my character, and continually inspire me to pursue my goals with meaning and direction.

UB became an avenue that allowed me to join a program on national television and win a significant amount of money. More importantly, UB helped me rediscover my passion for leadership and service. It enabled me to grow, learn, and adapt in different situations, while building friendships and creating memories I will forever treasure.
