One of Brahmans’ Sports Pride: Strong Gymnasia
Ever heard of Brahmans? Coined by former Batangas Governor and former Board of Regents Chairman Vicente A. Mayo, that’s what the UB community calls its student-athletes.
In UB, a Brahman symbolizes the strength and determination of belonging to the UB community. They are always ready to face competitions head-on with grit and dedication, just like a Brahman.
Consequently, their dedication has come to fruition over UB’s 80 years, bringing countless sources of pride to the university. This achievement has been made possible through the university’s holistic mindset. UB’s point: it was about training students not only in laboratories but also in competitive gymnasiums.
As UB celebrates its 80th Founding Anniversary, “evolution” carries a deeper meaning. It also reflects the institution’s ability to sustain its upward progress and carve a path toward even greater heights. With this, UB believes that stronger student-athletes require equally strong and competitive training facilities. Thus, the construction of the Carmelo Q. Quizon Gymnasium and the Millennium Gymnasium.
This evolution continues as several RAAM 2026 competitions take place on UB grounds, welcoming student-athletes from across CALABARZON.
These gyms were built to transform UB into a hub for the region’s biggest sporting events.
OIC-Vice President for Student Affairs and Services and Sports Director Mr. Christopher V. Quizon has seen the vision. He saw these gymnasia as the crowning achievements of a decades-long journey.
“During our 80th Founding Anniversary, it’s a milestone to accommodate big events like RAAM,” Mr. Quizon shared. “It highlights how far we’ve come. It’s a sign that we are equipped to host sports events — no matter how big they are.”

The opening ceremony of RAAM 2026 was held on March 7, 2026. It featured a breathtaking showcase of cultural performances. UB Indayog Kultura performed alongside diverse cultural groups of Batangas City to showcase Batangas pride.
